Liam went to get dressed, getting everything out of the closet, not even spending a thought on re-using the stuff he had worn before. He always did it like that, and when he was too lazy to do the laundry he even thought about buying new stuff; he thought long enough though to save the money because Charlie might have done it by then. Sitting down on the sofa again to tie his shoes he grabbed the dime bag from the floor and prepared another injection.
Charlie peeled off his dirty boxers and pulled out fresh ones, grinning when he felt Will look his way. "Cheeky bugger, find some clothes." He said, pushing past Will into the closet, blocking it from his boyfriends sight. Will scoffed in protest and pinched Charlie's arse, still grinning. Finally they'd both found suitable clothes for clubbing, but were already starting to get hot in them from the glances they passed between the two of them.
When his girlfriend came back from the bathroom Liam was about to put on the leather strap on his upper arm. "Decent enough?" he asked her and was told he looked hot in response. She sat down next to him waiting for him to pass her the syringe.
Charlie and Will bustled through the hallway together, coming to stand outside Liam's door. "Are we going soon?" Charlie called, and shivered as Will licked his neck. "Fuck, stop it.." he whispered hurriedly. "You'll get me in so much shit."
Lina looked at Liam askingly when she heard the little brother's voice. "He's coming with us. This one time. He's bringing his mate, he'll be okay." Lina looked suspicious but only shrugged and took over the needle. "Hang on a sec!" Liam called at Charlie.
Charlie thunked his head against the closed door in protest but Will covered his mouth with his own and put a knee between Charlie's legs. "Will..." he tried to say, but it felt really damn good.
Liam got up, when Lina had put her shot, and took a little sip of the beer still standing on the table, then held his hand to her and helped her up. "Let's go." He said wrapping his arm around her possessively.
Charlie heard footsteps and pushed Will off of him, breathing hard. They both sat against the wall, grinning, lips ruby red from use and pretending like they were completely innocent. They couldn't have looked more guilty.
Liam couldn't put it, but he didn't like that look on Charlie's face, or Charlie's friend's face for that matter. He tried to figure what it was that bothered him, but he couldn't think very straight because of that fresh shot, and additionally Lina finally told the "midget" and his friend to get up and get going, and to stop grinning because she couldn't stand that. Liam only swallowed, unable, or too cowardly, to tell Charlie not to care.
Charlie rolled his eyes at Lina, walking in front of them with Will. "Shizenkoff" he mumbled, making Will laugh outright. Charlie giggled behind his hand, throwing a look behind him at his brother.
Liam couldn't stop watching Charlie and Will, he was still trying to figure what was bothering him about them, and the more he watched them walk in front of them he reasoned that there was something about their closeness. It was something that didn't exist between him and either of his mates or even him and Angelina.
As they left the building, Charlie held the door for everyone to pass, but Will came to step beside him, now falling behind Liam and Lina, and wrapped his arm around Charlie and goosed him, making him yelp. "Will!" He hissed, grinning.
Lina had her hand in the back pocket of Liam's jeans and he had his hand tucked slightly under the waistband of her skirt. They walked in silence as they often did; Sometimes Liam wondered if their relationship contained more than "sex drugs and rock'n'roll"; it didn't very much and most of the time Liam didn't care, because that was just the way he was living, but sometimes he felt miserably down and felt dependent on his girl.
They stayed farther back from the older couple, Will making a daring move to hold Charlie's hand. At first Charlie froze, eyes wide, but after looking at the fact that Liam probably couldn't care less, he relaxed and squeezed his hand back. Will smiled widely, leaning in to peck Charlie's neck, making Charlie shiver. "You are so bad for me..." He mumbled.
Only when they stopped in front of the club where Lina wanted to go to, Liam recognized that Charlie and Will had fallen back. Or rather his girlfriend had, as she had been the one looking back. Over Liam's shoulder she called they should hurry. Liam didn't like they tone Lina used to talk to his brother, so in order to keep her quiet he pulled her into a hot kiss.
Charlie glowered at Lina, but Will clasped his hand again, squeezing it reassuringly. Charlie smiled, and they released each other’s hands to get into the club. To do so, they had to pass Liam and Lina, who looked pretty engaged in their kiss, but as they walked by, Lina stuck out her leg and tripped Charlie, sending him sprawling into Will's open arms.
Liam broke the kiss to see what happened. He didn't like very much what he saw. His brother in the arms of a male? Poor Liam's eyes. He couldn't say anything; he only could stare in sheer surprise. "Let's go inside." He finally said, ignoring Lina's bitchy comment about how cute they looked.
"Fucking whore" Charlie spat at Lina. Will just wrapped an arm around his shoulders and led him into the club, buying him a shot. Charlie thanked him, and they sat close together, both hitting back their shots at the same time. "You wanna dance? Charlie said, looking at the mosh of people on the dance floor. He saw Lina juking against Liam and scowled. "What a slut..." he mumbled, making Will laugh before he grabbed Charlie's hand and led him into the mosh.
Liam saw Charlie and Will starting to dance. Together. He was still quite confused about the sight from outside the club and he didn't like that either. Liam just stood and watched while Lina kept on dancing and grinding agaimst him; Surprisingly though she let him watch and didn't try to get his attention back.
Charlie and Will moved deeper into the mosh so they couldn't be seen quite so easily, but they still felt Liam's eyes on them. "Well, this might be hard to explain." Charlie shouted above the hardcore rock. "This music blows too." But Will just pulled him closer, arms around his shoulders and thrust their groins together, rocking with the frantic beat.
Liam watched his brother quite a long time, he had even still seen him when they went deeper into the mosh, but then he lost track. He turned back to face his girlfriend who was still grinding against him and had a quite happy expression on her face. "Did you know?" he asked shouting. She replied saying she always new there was nothing good to expect from that boy.
Charlie and Will let their foreheads touch, not caring who was looking at them. He realized his brother could get him into some serious shit with all of this, but right now, he didn't much care. He just rocked against his boyfriend, feeling more comforted than he had in a long time.
Liam was shocked about Lina's comment. Charlie still was his little brother, no matter what. And there was much good to expect: Charlie was a great musician. And - if Liam would admit it or not - he was what kept Liam alive, not his girlfriend.
Charlie's mind eventually slipped to Lina. What a bitch, coming into this family and telling her brother how to act. It was ridiculous, and he was a prat for listening to her. Will seemed to notice his train of thought because warm lips suddenly were pressed against his, and strong arms wrapped firmly around him. He just smiled and leaned into the hug, letting the feeling of being loved fill his body.
"Are you mad? You can't be talking about him like that! He's my brother!" he yelled at her. She yelled back that she couldn't understand his anger, that she never understood why he let "midget" live with him, especially if he played for the other team. Liam got really angry. Clenching his teeth he hissed: "He's no midget!" then added: "And he's young, he doesn't know what he wants."
The crowd started pushing them apart, apparently making room in the middle for something. Will grabbed Charlie's hand and led him towards the spectacle. When they arrived, Charlie gasped inaudibly. "Liam?" He whispered, and Will squeezed his hand. Honestly the sight of his brother yelling at a his girlfriend should've made his day, but instead, he felt hollow.
When Lina tried to reply not by yelling back but kissing him to distract him - and it had worked quite often - Liam only pushed her away. "No!" he said furiously, "No! I let you dictate too often, I held back my opinion, I suppressed so much, but this is going too far. All you did today was discriminating Charlie, I'm not gonna let you do that anymore." With that he walked away, pushing through the crowd. He didn't even react when she called after him.
Charlie just stood, mouth open as Liam moved away, the crowd went back to the crude dancing, and Lina just shrugged and moved towards the bathroom. Will finally roused him with a hand on his shoulder, and pulled him into a hug. He whispered something about Charlie needing to talk to Liam, so he nodded, and they went off to find him. After a minute, they found him at the bar, nursing a beer. Will pushed Charlie forward, but Charlie couldn't say anything: he just stared.
Liam felt like shit. He never had fought with Angelina so they were mad at each other - well, he didn't know about her, so maybe only he was - afterwards and wouldn't talk. It felt weird and final, at his part. Never ever again would he let a woman into his life that much.
Will pushed Charlie forward so that the boy stumbled into his brother, looking directly in his eyes even though Liam was sitting on a chair. There was an empty one beside Charlie, so he took it. "Li... I heard what you said... sorta... I mean, I couldn't hear much over this crappy music, but I just wanted to say... well..." He trailed off. Brothers don't usually apologize or say thank you, so he felt really awkward.
Liam half heartily smiled at Charlie. "You don't have to say anything. It's okay. Go on, have fun. Don't bother with me." He hadn't meant for Charlie to listen.
Charlie didn't budge. He gave one look to Will which told the boy to hang back, then turned to Liam again. "Maybe I want to bother you." He started playfully, but his smile soon faded and he asked "How did it start?"
Fuck. Liam glanced at Will, back at Charlie, and then looked away. "It doesn't matter how it started." Truth was, he didn't want to embarrass Charlie if it was wrong what he had concluded from what he saw, and if it was true, he didn't want to know anymore about it. He looked back at Charlie. "It just started, and maybe it was highest time."
Charlie leaned in. "you are lying to me." He stated matter of factly. "You know exactly why it started. And I want to know." He said, resting his arm on the grimy counter before removing it quickly, look of disgust on his face.
"You don't want to know. Believe me, you don't want to know." Liam knew it was hard to get out of this. With Charlie it always was. He downed his beer completely and ordered a new one. Maybe he could just tell him it was Lina's remark that one could never expect anything good coming from Charlie –
"She said something about me, didn't she?" Charlie said, ordering a beer of his own and paying for it himself. He started sipping the foam, eyes still piercing Liam's, but his face was completely relaxed and his voice steady and calm.
Liam took a large sip of his beer. He tried to look down or away, because Charlie's gaze made him uncomfortable; He didn't like being watched like this. But at the same time he couldn't draw away. "Aye, she did." He said barely audible.
"Well, that’s ok. She's not the only one... far from it actually." Charlie said quite light-heartedly. "They see me in the hallways and immediately start whispering like snakes. I'm kinda used to it." He said, sipping his beer. "Will helps me through it when it gets to be too much though."
"It's far from okay. She shouldn't have done that. Shouldn't your girlfriend accept your family?" Liam said. The Will-remark had him think about asking Charlie about what he saw, but he wasn't courageous, instead he -again - emptied his beer.
Charlie nodded slowly, and took another sip of his beer. "What you have to know is that those people aren't as smart as you are. They don't understand, and they're full of fucking bullshit. Then the words just bounce off, and don't matter anymore." The music had been quiet for the majority of the conversation, so they could talk in lower voices. Charlie looked at Liam again. "You're way better than she is and she knows it, so she's trying to make herself seem more important."
Talking to Charlie seriously always seemed to Liam like talking to an old wise man. And today was no exception. He didn't reply, because there was nothing he could have said. So he just sat and listened to the music. "You know what?" he started after a bit. "I don't even like her taste in music. The next time we go out, I'll take you to a place with music you might like better." he said with a smile.
Charlie smiled. "Can Will come? I don't want to just watch you grind up against girls all night long." He said sarcastically. He finished his beer and got up, planning on heading back to the floor to find Will. Just before he did though, he gave Liam one last big smile. "You can do it tonight, though, if you want."
Liam stuck out his tongue at him. "Thanks, baby bro." he said before Charlie and Will went off to the the floor. He wouldn't go back there though. At least he wouldn't go there intending to poach girls. Maybe he'd go back if someone asked him, but at the moment he'd just stay at the bar, the source of beer.
The song shifted to a higher paced, more disco like dance song just as Charlie found Will, who immediately spun him around and started dancing like they were in the 70's. Charlie laughed hard, aware that Liam could still see them, but not especially caring. He was having so much fun, he almost forgot about Liam and Lina completely.
Liam spent his time looking at the people. He knew he was weird; he was quite antisocial, for he couldn't stand people, but at the same time he couldn't stand being alone. Most of the time though his eyes were fixed on Charlie and Will, as far as he could see them in the crowd.
The song changed again; now it was softer and quieter, like the sort of sappy music you'd hear at a school dance. Charlie rolled his eyes and made a gagging sound in his throat, but Will just laughed and pulled him closer, swaying to the music. After a minute, Charlie pulled back. "We should probably go." He said quietly.
Liam felt lonely, useless and he felt hollow. It wasn't that he wasn't used to this feeling, this feeling was with him all the time. But sometimes it wouldn't show as much as it would in moments like this - and for the last two or three months he had had Lina to distract him.
Charlie and Will sauntered over to where Liam was sitting, and Charlie tapped him on the shoulder. "Ready to go?" He said hopefully, noticing his brother seemed a bit blue. Understandably. Liam had never had what Charlie would call a completely successful relationship, and this was just another one to blow up in his face. He grabbed Liam's hand. "I think so." and, still holding on to him, the Will and Charlie led Liam out of the building.
Liam was grateful Charlie had decided to go home, since he had really felt out of place in there. He just wanted to go home now to be on his own. He probably wouldn't be able to sleep, though he felt dead tired. But at least the beer was cheaper at home.
Charlie kept his hand on Liam's which probably looked odd, but he really didn't care. He looked up at his brother, finally able to speak in his normal volume of voice. "You ok? We could've left sooner, we didn't mean to make you hang out."
Liam smiled softly at his brother and shook his head. "No, it's fine, I took you there so you could have fun, okay? Don't worry about me."
Charlie grinned. "Mate, you're my brother. It’s my job to worry about you. Especially when you do stupid shit. So stop doing stupid shit!" He said, laughing.
Liam laughed mildly. Charlie probably knew very well Liam wouldn't listen to what Charlie said, but Liam still appreciated Charlie's being worried about him.
Charlie pulled Will closer to him, smiling widely. Maybe his brother wasn't happy, but the world wasn't falling to pieces. He wanted to kiss Will just to do it, but he knew his brother would freak, so he just hooked arms with both the taller boys and they walked down the block, Charlie whistling to himself.
I never blamed Charlie, being the cause I broke up with Angelina. It was my decision and I defended my brother. I left my girlfriend, sure that I'd never ever again let a woman affect my life that much. I wouldn't allow myself another relationship; I could have another lass every night. And I made it - and later the band helped me - to stick to this. (Until years later Karen entered my life.) But that night, I ended the relationship with Angelina and started a new, long one with the needle.
